FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, Los Angeles, CA: N.E.D. stands for "No Evidence Of Disease"—it's the end result every cancer patient and physician strives for. N.E.D. is also the acronym of an acclaimed indie rock band consisting of gynecological surgeons who are driven to both heal with their medical expertise and inspire with their musical talents. N.E.D. does NOT stand for "novelty"—the critically lauded band is a serious showcase for six musicians, intent on following their muse--recording and performing straight from the heart. Brought together from across the U.S., they discovered their love of performing and songwriting through their professional connections. Almost instantaneously, N.E.D., consisting of John Boggess (Chapel Hill,NC/vocals, guitar), Joanie Hope (Anchorage, AK/vocals), William "Rusty" Robinson (New Orleans/bass), John Soper (Chapel Hill, NC/guitar, mandolin), Will Winter (Portland, OR.lead guitar, vocals) and Nimesh Nagarsheth (New York City/ drums, percussion), committed to creating and performing their original brand of rock music. "SIX DEGREES", produced by Mario McNulty, is the band's first full-length release and follows up on their debut EP from 2009. "SIX DEGREES" will be available on Rhythm Heals Records for a special pre-sale on CD Baby June 1st @ CD Baby.com and @ Amazon.com and iTunes June 21st. The first single "Running in Circles" will be promoted at Triple A radio (going for adds June 6). In addition, net proceeds from both the sale of the album and all performances will go to Marjie's Fund, a Portland, Oregon-based charity.
It hasn't taken long for the band to hone their distinctive sound given their wide ranging talents and diverse musical backgrounds. After the release of their first EP in 2009 (about which All Music Guide wrote "One can support their cause and their music…this EP never feels like the quality of the music is taking a backseat to the importance of the cause..."), the band committed itself to succeed as a band on the merits of its music while spreading the message of gynecologic cancer awareness. This year, N.E.D. will celebrate the release of "Six Degrees" with a pair of concerts in NYC—an advance CD release party May 31st at Drom (all proceeds benefit Marjie's Fund) and at Ogilvy Cares inaugural gala benefitting Cancer Care @ the Intrepid Air, Sea and Space Museum on June 1st. Additional dates TBA.
In addition, Spark Media Group out of Washington DC is producing a feature-length documentary of the band titled "Dancing with N.E.D." The film charts the dual careers of the musicians/surgeons, from operating rooms to music halls. The viewer will get an intimate look at the life-affirming work of these band mates as they grapple with the realities of treating life-altering gynecological cancers. The documentary is scheduled to be completed in November, 2011 and shown on the national film circuit during 2012.
